About a few days ago, I was send a message from one of my followers letting me know that As Told by Ginger was getting a revival around 2017 due to an article from MoviePilot. I was unsure about it, but I read it and knew immediately that it was false. Why? Here are 3 reasons why.
1. The article was written by the same guy who copied my Rugrats Hanukkah special from December 2012 verbatim and claimed it as his own work. If you don't believe me, take a look at his article and look at mine and see if you spot any differences in grammar or even in pictures. That's a huge violation of plagiarizing. It's okay if you borrow a quote from a newspaper article, a book, or an online article as long as you credit them. The same goes for borrowing video clips and music from a YouTube reviewer as long as you ask them permission and credit them at the end of your videos. But if you're claiming to have written an article or create a video and copied exactly from another person's article and video and claiming it as your own and people know about this, you'll be called exactly what you are. A liar, a complete joke that no one will treat seriously, and, most importantly, a thief.
I actually place ads on my blog and videos and make a little money off of it whenever a person clicks on a link to my articles. It may not be enough that I can make a living off of, but it's better than nothing. When a person steals a product that they put hours, days, or even weeks to produce and gets even more views than the original, you will suffer the consequences in other ways than people not taking your work seriously. If it was done in school, you would get an immediate F. It's even worse if a person steals an article or a video claiming it as their own if they're sponsored by someone to post on a weekly or daily basis. You could be sued for that. It has happened to The Comic Book Cast in the past where someone stole their podcasts without asking their permission and placed it on their YouTube channel not crediting them. I know there are some people who do that all the time and still do it, it's still not the right thing to do.
2. If the rumored As Told by Ginger revival was true, we would have heard a confirmation from either Emily Kapnek, the creator of the show, Klasky Csupo, the production company who animated the show, or even Nickelodeon themselves. Going back to the upcoming Hey Arnold TV movie, a few days after the Variety article was posted, creator Craig Bartlett himself confirmed that it was true. He even gave thanks to the fans on his FaceBook page and a YouTube video alongside with the voice actors of Rhonda and Phoebe Olivia Hack and Anndi McAfee.
While Emily Kapnek doesn't post on her Twitter page a lot since she's busy with a new show on Fox called Front Man, she would have confirmed it right away. The fact that she hasn't is very clear that it's not true. Even if Emily wasn't involved in the revival, then either she would have mentioned it or Nickelodeon would have posted the announcement on social media or on a reliable source such as Variety. Even Klasky Csupo would have announced it on their FaceBook page or on their official website, but there was nothing. In fact, the rumors have stated that Arlene Klasky and Gabor Csupo want to revive Rugrats and The Wild Thornberrys, not As Told by Ginger. While the article did state that it would be done in house at Nickelodeon Animation Studios, again it would've been posted on either their official website or on their social media. There was nothing of the sort.
3. According to the article, he claims that Nickelodeon has shared the pictures for the upcoming revival, even though they're not finalized.
These pictures are NOT from Nickelodeon. They are pictures based off of his own animated YouTube series called The Anytown Show.
So, let me get this straight. The confirmed Hey Arnold TV movie has NO pictures of the new designs of the characters, but the unconfirmed As Told by Ginger revival series does. That makes no sense whatsoever.
You know what else sucks? This is the most excitement I've heard from people when talking about As Told by Ginger. Back in 2000 when the show came out, almost no one acknowledge it. It was seeing as a girly show that was too ugly or too boring and ended up being completely ignored by many Nickelodeon fans for many years. Even today, it's the least talked about Klasky Csupo Nicktoon and one of the most least discussed Nickelodeon show ever made. That's a shame since I have stated over the years about how criminally underrated As Told by Ginger is. It did so much for Nickelodeon such as having story arcs, character development, different clothes in every episode, and wonderful deep lessons from addiction, death, suicidal depression, divorce, and romance that almost no other show did at the time. The closest show that was for older kids and teens that tackled in a story arc and character development that came out around the same time was Caitlin's Way, another horribly underrated Nickelodeon show that's faded into obscurity.
To conclude this article, please don't believe a single word this guy stated. It's a dirty lie from someone who just wanted to gain his 15 minutes of attention by clinging to your nostalgia and tricking you that a show you liked is coming back. Again, I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news. I'm not doing this for gaining attention for myself. I'm not doing this for mudslinging anyone. I'm doing this to right a wrong. If this article was 100% true, I will sincerely apologize to this guy and will be looking forward to when it comes out in 2017.
Trust me, if there's any huge As Told by Ginger fan, it's me. I love everything about this show: the characters, the story, the lessons it taught, and the risks that it took to differentiate itself from any other Nicktoon in its day. Sure, it's not perfect, but it's an amazing Nicktoon that still holds up today and is just as relevant with its messages even more now than when it came out back in 2000. I dedicated an entire month to As Told by Ginger on my YouTube channel to celebrate the show's 15th anniversary which you can check out.
There are other dedicated As Told by Ginger fans that I highly recommend you check out their work.
But for now, I state that this article is a fake and that you shouldn't believe a single word of it. Let's continue to love this amazing show and share our love to those who haven't seen it or never gave it a glance. It deserves a LOT more recognition and it's thanks to you, the fans, for it still being remembered.
That's all for now. Tune in next time as I'll post my last video to finally cap of As Told by Ginger Month. It's something I've worked hard and hope it'll be a grand way to start 2016. Hope to see you around Old School Lane soon. Thanks for reading.
